Cerebral palsy is a disability in which the brain is not able to coordinate and control movement of the body in a normal way. Cerebral palsy is the result of damage to the brain occurring during or before childbirth. This damage during development permanently impairs the brain's ability to communicate with and direct muscles in the body. Cerebral palsy is the leading cause of disability in children, but public understanding of the disorder is limited. Cerebral Palsy Project is an informational resource center. Our goal is to increase awareness and understanding by providing open access to the most current and accurate information about cerebral palsy.
Cerebral palsy is actually not single, unified disorder but rather a umbrella term which includes a group of related neurologic disorders in which the individual's brain cannot properly control movement of certain muscles in the body.
